Question by poker_fan_in_nyc: People who cross the street when they have a red Do Not Walk sign and cars have the green turning light…?
Okay this is something that has really been bothering me…people really do not pay attention to the Walk/Do Not Walk lights when crossing the street. (here in in NYC it is usually a red hand for do not walk, and a person for walk)…they are there for a reason and people ignore them. The thing that bothers me the most is when the red hand is up for pedistrians not to walk because cars were given the green light to turn only…so now all these pedistrians are in the street, the cars can’t turn and then the light turns green and the rest of the traffic starts moving…I might not be able to express properly how I am feeling correctly, but it just bothers me that pedistrians do not follow the walk/do not walk lights…they really are there for a reason!!!

I guess my question is how many of you honestly following the Walk/Do Not Walk lights? It really is frustrating to me when a car has the green light to turn and the pedistrian crosses when (s)he has the Do Not Walk sign lite up
and yes I would cross the street if I had the Do Not Walk sign ONLY if there were no cars coming…these people start walking the second the green turning light changes, but that is only for the cars so they can turn…the pediestrians are still supposed to wait until the green light comes on for all traffic and they get their “Walk” signal lit up…

I guess because I see this every day at certain intersections and it is just very frustrating…I am trying to figure out a way to get people more aware of really using the walk/do not walk lights…and then they get mad that they almost got hit by a car when they shouldn’t have been in the middle of the street to begin with (just some stuff that I have witnesses, never involved in)…
“We are supposed to yield the pedestrians at all cross street. I know people at the big cities don’t follow the light sign.”

I agree when they have their green light and the walk signal that we are to yield to them…but not when they have the Do Not Walk signal and the light is ONLY for cars to make a left hand turn…these people start walking when the light is still red to them…that is what is so frustrating
xajide I agree with you 100% …don’t even get me started on the way people drive here LOL …but that is another topic completely…
Tom-SJ: LOL I never said this was the most important thing that bothers me…just something that was on my mind at the moment…all I was thinking was how to get people to better use the pedestrian walk signals, especially when cars have the light to turn only and they’re supposed to wait…oh and thanks for making me smile this early in the morning thinking I have a pretty good life because you think I am not worried about anything else…silly me for posting about one issue at a time LOL

To be honest, I don’t always follow the signs (for example if there isn’t any traffic), but for the most part I will.

The reason most people don’t obey the signs, is because they’re in a hurry and could care less about traffic. As a native NY’er you know this. ANother reason, is NYC is full of immigrants (both legal and illegal) and a great many of them do not understand traffic signals.

Unfortunately, the law is almost always in favor of the pedestrian. There is a “catch-all” generic violation for driveres called “Failed to Exercise Due Care” which pretty much means if a pedestrain just doesn’t dart out into traffic, that you as a driver are required to automatically yield to them.

This unfortunately leads to a great many accidents involving pedestrians, and a lot of them result in death.

I haven’t yet. There are different ways I contribute to living green and reducing my footprint. Eventually I will get to that point but right now that sort of transportation is significant to me.

I will purchase a green car. (doesn’t need gasoline to operate)

Electric Car Popularity – Reasons People Prefer Electric Cars To Gas Cars

Electric cars are not a new concept as we think, people hve been using them for a long time .In fact in the 1900′s people used more electric cars than cars run on gas.In the 1920′s when the popularity for cars was growing, gas was very costly.Starting a gas run car was also a very tedious process, there was no key to ignite the engine, in fact a rod used to fit into the front of the car which had to be turned round and round to get the car started.

Not only were gas run cars tedious to start , they emitted alot of smoke and were very noisy, as either the mufflers used were not good or there were no mufflers at all. Beleive it or not , at one point of time electric cars were so popular that there were about 50,000 electric cars running on the streets of United States .

As new discoveries were underway to make gasoline cheaper, electric cars started disappearing from the market. The discovery of the electric starter made way for the exit of the crank and the car was started with a key.A car run on gas could travel more distance than the electric car. Thus cars run on gas started getting more pouplar than the electric car.

Now, once again because of the awareness towards protecting the environment and reducing the dangers caused by the emission of the greenhouse gases ” green ” electric cars are once again getting
popularized.

Gasoline is not used to run an electric car, it runs on the energy stored in batteries in the car. 12,14 or more batteries may be needed to run the car.The operation of the electric car is similar to that a remote controlled one since both have an electric motor that turns the wheel and a battery that that runs the motor.

Charging of the batteries can either be done all night or some cars need to be plugged into a standard electric wall. There are some which need a large electric outlet, something like what is used for an electric stove or electric clothes dryer. These are the various ways electricity is stored in the cars.

The batteries used to run the cars have to be either lead acid batteries, similar to those used in torch lights or ni-cad (nickel-cadium) used to run portable viodeo recorders or video games , only much larger in size. A lot of work is going on to upgrade the batteries to hold more energy and last longer. By the time the fifth graders in 2001 are ready to drive we should have electric cars which will be able to travel 150 to 200 miles before needing to get recharged.

Manufacturers of cars and scientists are making constant endeavours to make better cars which will be more eco-friendly. The revival of electric cars and the challenge to make them more attractive is on in a big way and enticing more people to switch over to electric cars.

Question by Fisherman: Is it true that most people who buy green cars are geniuses
Does the colour car that a person selects in any way have a bearing on his temperament and personality.

Best answer:

Answer by the other left
That fact is so out there in the media for years…that people who WANT TO BE PERCEIVED as a genius…and are stuck on themselves…could buy one. I’d say, no. I know only one guy with a green car who is a genius. Just the one. Out of the proven geniuses I’ve known, which are more than one would think.

It’s almost as “common knowledge” as “buy a white car for lower insurance rates…they’ll be fooled into thinking you’re extra safe and cautious coz studies from the 1970s (haha) show…..”

I was told by a friend that people who buy green color cars are smarter Why

Best answer:

Answer by onelight
I’m 50 and in all my years I’ve never heard that. Has no rhyme or reason to me. When I think of the color green, I think of green fields, peacefulness, relaxing . . . ” Smart ” is not a thought that comes to mind of word associated with the color green.
